Chaos, Order, and Community Tuesday, February 12th, at 7pm. Commission Chanbers, 1st Floor, Weber Center. 2380 Washington Blvd., Ogden.
As you may have read and heard, Weber County has launched a county-wide reading initiative to stimulate dialogue among residents/readers on numerous literary topics and extending into, other areas of concern. The story of Beowulf was selected as the first title to jumpstart the program. It is a timeless epic tale written in 1000 A.D. and versatile in reflecting many themes that are very relevant to today’s tumultuous society. For more information, please go to: www.weberpl.lib.ut.us/Beowulf
The presenters for the upcoming lecture, Charles Trentelman from the Standard Examiner and John Beal from Weber State University, will lead a discussion before the Weber County Commissioners.
Participation in the discussion series is open to the general public.
County commissioners and attendees will be interested in drawing upon the underpinnings of social organization in Beowulf’s ancient and prehistorical community settings to explore current issues of communities, relationships within them, and peoples’ attitudes about them; How do we advocate for equality and policies that allow for the well being of all people, particularly the marginalized within a very diverse population? It would be effective to understand problems, identify assets, locate resources, analyze local power structures, assess human needs, investigate other concerns that comprise our community’s character in order to increase individual wellness and enhance quality of life for all Weber County residents.
Hope you can join us on Tuesday, February 12th, 7pm, @ the Weber Center.
